On today's show we listen to some of the fabulous bands that were around in the years from the 1920s to the 1940s. Our opening and closing numbers are brought to us by the wonderful band led by Count Basie. Joining us as well are jazz bands from almost ninety years ago, including Fletcher Henderson from 1931 and Jimmie Lunceford from 1934. We hear too from the orchestras led by the brilliant drummer Chick Webb, and by Don Redman, in an example of his major contribution to jazz as bandleader, arranger and composer. Erskine Hawkins and his band bring us his classic composition, "Tuxedo Junction" and we hear too from Teddy Wilson with his excellent orchestra from 1939. Enjoy our excellent bands!
