Show Notes

Today's show takes us back to the 1920s and early 1930s to listen to recordings from jazz artists and dance bands that flourished at the time. We hear Billie Holiday's first recording from 1933, the start of an amazing career. Benny Goodman and friends join us in a jam session from 1928, and we hear crooner Russ Columbo from 1931 singing his own composition "Prisoner of Love". In a rare recording from 1932, a young Bing Crosby brings us St Louis Blues, accompanied by the Duke Ellington orchestra. And we hear Frankie Trumbauer's classic rendition of Hoagy Carmichael's "Riverboat Shuffle" featuring the cornet of Bix Beiderbecke and the clarinet of Don Murray. Classic jazz!
